After glazing the next step is to polish with a polishing compound. I use MacGuires #7 you can get it at almost any auto parts store for about $6.00-$7.00. I believe Milbuns cover this as well in the Glazing section of the tutorial...

P.S. If it makes you fill any better you don't have to stiff after every body session. I would every other or at least every third. The oil will rise thru the newly applied shellac. That way it will look shinny most of the time.

I already took your advise on stiffing. I do it every other bodying session. I'll deal with the dullness until glazing and polishing.......I can wait. I just thought I was doing something wrong.

Thanks Michael,

Doug Ubele

I took a picture of the back last night. The picture doesn't show the dullness that I am referring to. In fact, the finish is very shiny. I don't think I'll be able to capture on film what I am talking about. Maybe if I took the guitar outside and took a picture in natural light. The other issue is getting the picture of less than 75 KB.

Still working on it!

Thanks

Take a deep breath and repeat after me..."I don't need to worry about sheen till glazing"..."I don't need to worry about sheen till glazing"!!! Don't fret all's well (pardon the pun)

Yeah, I know. After looking at again last night, the dullness is not that bad. In fact, if I posted the picture you'd rip me a new one because of the high gloss!

I just completed my fourth bodying session at lunch today. I will probably start the fifth tomorrow. Only 2 more and I can start glazing

P.S. - The neck is turning out really nice. I almost started to cry.

Your second FP project will be a breeze after 50 you will be really good at it. Then you will have to learn the hybrid guitar FP/laqure

If not for the time constrants and bar room inviroment protection requirments ( most of my clients are local upstarts plying the Texas bar room circut).. I would offer nothing but FP finishes.

It is my favorite process. I once put twenty body sessions and ten glazing sessions on a table I made for my mother about ten years ago. It took nearly a half gallon of 2# cut and looked as deep as any poly finish.
